What should I ask?

Pretty simple, ask whatever you want to know about. Try to keep it appropriate, but otherwise, just be yourself!

Q: Another favorite song of mine is Mi Amore Escondido (did I spell that right?) It's an awesome snapshot of a secret crush and it's very "singable.". Is there a story behind the song?
A: Almost perfect spelling on your part: It's actually spelled Mi Amor escondido. No "e" after amor. That would be the Italian spelling me thinks. My mother asked me to write her a Spanish tune since this is her first language. So I came up w/ a bi-lingual tune...sorta met her in the middle in so much as her request was concerned. The tune won 1st place in the "best over-all song" category & also "best tejano-latin" category in the Austin Songwriters Group contest 1998. It's been "covered" by at least two artists/groups (one in Switzerland) & also helped secure me a record deal w/ an indie label. The song has been very good to me & at present is the most airplayed of all my tunes & has earned me the most royalties.

Q: The song writing process is fascinating to me. I would love to know what inspires individual songs and how you wrestle with each one. Example: what inspired "Desperado," how dit it progress?
A: I was on my way to a gig in Santa Fe, NM & had just left El Paso, TX...& was passing thru Las Cruces, NM when the song just sorta starting taking shape around then in my head....I guess what inspired it was the desert area there & what it must've looked like hundreds of yrs before. So I imagined being a "Desperado" heading home to my beloved & the Sangre De Christo mountain range near SF. In a way it paralleled the present journey I was on & sorta helped passed the time getting there. The story is entirely fictional but I used present day family names for some of the characters in the song. For instance...Consuelo is my Mother's name & Ernesto is an Uncle of mine.
